CBD 101

CBD 101

FAST FACTS:
  1. CBD is simply the abbreviation for cannabidiol, one of the many cannabinoids, or compounds, found in the hemp plant.
  2. CBD is a powerful plant extract that has been used for wellness for thousands of years. It is oil extracted from the entire hemp plant
  3. CBD is non-intoxicating and non-addictive

Numerous studies have been performed around the therapeutic effects of CBD and suggesting its efficacy in dealing with a host of wellness related issues.
What is CBD Oil?
CBD oil is a natural oil which is extracted from the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant. It is used by people all over the world within wellness and beauty applications.
What are Cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are active compounds produced by all hemp plants, and they are responsible for most of the benefits of cannabis. Cannabinoids found in plants are technically called phytocannabinoids (plant-based), while cannabinoids produced by the human body are called endocannabinoids. Cannabinoids directly interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which promotes balance, ie. homeostasis.
How does CBD work?
Cannabinoids are natural compounds that interact with receptors in our Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS is crucial to regulating homeostasis, including sleep, inflammation, mood and more.

While we naturally produce cannabinoids, phytocannabinoids (plant-based CBD) enhance our ability to make more of our own endocannabinoids.
What is the endocannabinoid system?
One of the body’s major regulatory systems and the primary homeostatic regulatory system, which means that it keeps key systems balanced and running smoothly.

These include the:
  • NERVOUS SYSTEM
  • DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
  • STRESS & MOOD
  • APPETITE & METABOLISM
  • IMMUNE HEALTH & INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE
The endocannabinoid system is made up of a series of receptors distributed throughout the body, namely CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors interact with cannabinoids like CBD resulting in various wellness benefits.
Will CBD cause a high?
No! BROWN GIRL Jane CBD is non-intoxicating and will not cause any high.
What is CBD used for?
Many people use CBD to support the body’s natural systems. Cannabinoids are an integral part of the human body’s ability to regulate and balance a wide variety of physiological systems. CBD is also used by some for specific purposes such as supporting a good night’s rest or maintaining well-functioning joints.
Do your products contain THC?
No. All BROWN GIRL jane products show no detectable THC on their lab reports. We use patented technology to remove any residual THC found in our hemp extract.
CBD vs. THC
THC is the part of the hemp plant that causes a "high". Hemp plants sold in the USA must have less than 0.3% THC, which means that hemp-derived CBD oil will not cause any intoxicating effects. At BROWN GIRL Jane we also remove even the trace amounts of THC as an extra precaution.
THC
-Gets you high
-Binds directly to CB1 receptors, which are mostly found in the brain and nervous system, which leads to its strong psychoactive properties.
CBD
-Does not get you high
-Is believed to moderate the “high” and other effects associated with THC (paranoia, anxiety).
-Does not bind directly to CB1 or CB2 receptors, which is why it doesn’t produce intoxicating effects.

Instead, it activates the endocannabinoid system by enhancing the natural positive effects of certain proteins and enzymes. This is why so many therapeutic benefits can be attributed to CBD.
What does Broad Spectrum mean?
The term broad spectrum refers to CBD oil products that contain a combination of cannabinoids, terpenes and other beneficial compounds found in hemp. While many CBD oil products are made using CBD isolate, BROWN GIRL jane broad spectrum oils maintain concentrations of the beneficial compounds that are found in the original hemp plant. Our broad spectrum CBD oil products contain no detectable THC, as shown on our lab reports.
What are the benefits of taking broad spectrum CBD products?
The benefits of broad spectrum products are usually greater than the benefits provided by others, such as those containing just CBD isolate. This is due to what’s known as the entourage effect. The entourage effect occurs when compounds in the hemp plant, including cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids, work together to produce even greater effects than just CBD alone. All BROWN GIRL Jane products contain broad spectrum CBD oil. However, organic compounds such as CBD can produce different effects in different people. Your results may vary.
What is the entourage effect?
Broad spectrum CBD oil, such as that used in BROWN GIRL Jane products, contains a variety of cannabinoids and terpenes as well as other beneficial compounds. Each of the compounds has particular effects on the human body. Because terpenes can affect how the body responds to cannabinoids, the combined effect is often greater than the sum of the individual effects. The overall effect produced is known as the entourage effect. Non-broad or full spectrum products do not have the benefit of the entourage effect and are therefore not recommended.
